Connie Downing first began sharing her many talents with the Friends in the early to mid-1990’s after attending our book sales. She’s served on the Board for many years, held several different positions (including co-Chair of the Book Sale and vintage-book specialist), and led the organization as President several times.
Programs are Connie’s favorite area of service. We all remember visits from a CDC presenter in full biomedical protective gear, medical researchers discussing their work on Alzheimer’s Disease, an expert on Sherlock Holmes, a visit from a Chocolatier with samples, CPR classes, and other presentations.
And who can forget all the good times we’ve enjoyed at her carefully-planned and presented "We Love the Library Days,” with themes such as Cowboy Day, Archaeology Day, Courtyard Olympics, and Creepy Crawly Day? Popular features have included race cars, animal experts, special photo setups, balloon sculptures, and enjoyable activities for the whole family. If you see Connie, tell her about your favorite!
Displays about upcoming sales in the cases in the Library Foyer are also a "Connie Specialty.” We look forward to seeing them again soon.
Connie has many interests, including motor sports and the Greenland National Museum. We thank her for having time for FODL.
