PROGRAMS – Connie Downing, Chair
We were very fortunate to have scheduled our 10th annual "We Love the Library Day” for February 22nd, just days before the library closed. We were able to have a really good turnout and a memorable celebration with Wings and Wheels Day.
Throughout the morning, adults and children were invited to operate model trains on four different layouts provided by the North Atlanta O-Gauge Railroad Club. Guests could also climb into a race car and a Soapbox Derby car, have a photo with a balloon bi-plane, munch on themed refreshments, make a pinwheel, bid on items in a silent auction, and take home a souvenir. Outside, everyone could explore a vintage Mustang and a new Corvette and most especially, two Dunwoody Police cars sirens and all!
It all started with story time for the younger kids with Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch and concluded with a parrot show from Parrot Pro Productions, where the audience could not only learn all about parrots but converse with them, hold them and share a photo.
One of the more unusual activities, was a visit from the Library Fairy who floated through the area and tasked kids with three questions. If they could answer all three, they were rewarded with a packet of magic seeds.
We had a tremendous amount of enthusiastic help from FODL members and their friends for this day-long event. THANKS TO ALL!
A quote from Mayor Deutsch to sum up the day:"This makes my heart happy!”
